FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Find quick answers to the most common WordPress support questions.

Why has my WordPress website stopped working?
WordPress sites can stop working for several reasons including plugin conflicts, failed updates, PHP version incompatibilities, corrupted database tables, or exhausted server memory. The most common cause we see is a plugin or theme update that conflicts with another component. We diagnose the root cause precisely before making any changes, so nothing gets worse before it gets better.
How much does WordPress support and repair cost in the UK?
It depends whether you already know what's wrong. If you do, our ad hoc repair is £45 per hour with no diagnostic fee — you only pay for the work. If you're not sure, our No Fix No Fee option includes a free diagnosis and a flat £75 charge only if we fix it — £0 if we can't. For ongoing sites, our monthly support plan at £199/month includes 5 hours and same-day response.
How long does it take to fix a broken WordPress site?
Most WordPress issues are diagnosed within 2–4 hours and resolved within one business day. Complex problems such as database corruption or custom plugin conflicts may take 1–2 days. We give you a clear time estimate before any work begins so you know exactly what to expect.
Can you fix a hacked or malware-infected WordPress site?
Yes. We have extensive experience cleaning malware, removing backdoors, and hardening WordPress against future attacks. Our security service includes a full site scan, malware removal, vulnerability patching, and post-cleanup hardening. We also help you understand how the breach occurred to prevent recurrence.
What WordPress versions do you support?
We support all versions of WordPress, including legacy installations that other providers refuse to touch. Whether you are running the latest 6.x release or an older 4.x or 5.x site, we have the expertise to diagnose and fix it. We always recommend upgrading to a supported version after stabilising your site.
Do I need to give you access to my hosting to fix my site?
In most cases, yes — WordPress repairs typically require access to your hosting control panel, FTP/SFTP, and your WordPress admin dashboard. We treat your credentials with strict confidentiality and recommend changing passwords after our work is complete. We will explain exactly what access we need before we begin.
What is the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org?
WordPress.com is a hosted service that limits your control over your own site and restricts plugins. WordPress.org refers to the self-hosted, open-source software you install on your own web hosting — this is what the vast majority of business websites use. We specialise in self-hosted WordPress.org installations.
How will I know when my WordPress website has been fixed?
We provide a clear written summary of everything we diagnosed and every change we made once the work is complete. You will be able to see your site working in your browser, and we remain available for follow-up questions for 7 days after the fix at no extra charge.

Six-Step Process to Get Your Site Running Again

  1. Get in touch

Call Jonathan directly or fill out the contact form and tell us what's happening with your site.

  2. Free phone diagnosis

We talk it through, identify the likely cause, and agree the right approach and cost upfront — Ad Hoc, Monthly Support, or No Fix No Fee.

  3. Sign a simple confidentiality agreement

Before any access changes hands, you'll receive a short, plain-English agreement (see the sample below) confirming we'll keep everything confidential and delete your details once we're done.

  4. Share access

You provide login details to WordPress and/or your hosting control panel — only what's needed for the job.

  5. We fix it

We diagnose and resolve the issue, or let you know straight away if it's outside what's agreed, with options to proceed.

  6. Full breakdown & confirmation

You receive a clear written summary of what was wrong, what we did, time taken, and any recommendations — plus confirmation that your login details have been deleted.

Sample confidentiality agreement

Here's an example of the short, plain-English agreement you'll receive before any access changes hands:

CONFIDENTIALITY AGREEMENT

Between Micro Update Ltd (Company No. 02113375), Pine Villa, Wolborough Close, Newton Abbot, Devon, TQ12 1HR ("Micro Update") and [Customer Name] ("the Customer")

Micro Update agrees that:

  1. Any login details, files, or data shared by the Customer will be used only to diagnose and fix the agreed issue — nothing more.
  2. Nothing will be copied, shared with any third party, or kept any longer than necessary to complete the work.
  3. All login details will be permanently deleted once the work is confirmed complete.
  4. Anything seen or accessed during the work will be kept strictly confidential.
  5. The Customer will be kept informed of progress throughout.
